A Doctor's "Weigh" to a Healthier You.

Maintenance

How many times have you dieted and lost the weight, only to gain it all back and then some? Most people believe that once they have achieved their weight goal they can return to eating the same way that they used to; this is not the case.  In order to keep the weight off and stay healthy it is necessary for you to make some permanent changes to your eating and exercise habits.
As you reach your desired weight, you will then go on a Maintenance plan that will ensure your long-term success.  Maintenance incorporates 3 key factors.  First, it provides the nutrition necessary for good health.  Second, it is reasonable.  This means that what you eat and how much you eat is realistic.  Third, you need to have a moderate exercise program that consists of a minimum of five 30-minute walks per week.  These components will help insure continued success.
Our Nutriplus program is the basis for the Maintenance plan.  We gradually add calories to your food plan, adjusting them up or down depending on your weight and exercise patterns.  Once we have determined the amounts and distribution of food types, your food plan is set.
Some people can maintain their weight on a low-fat, moderate carbohydrate, moderate protein plan.  Others may need a plan that is more carbohydrate restrictive.  It is for this reason that you should make it a priority to communicate with us at least every 2 months for 1 year.  Our experience has shown that people who can maintain their weight for at least a year have a better chance of not gaining back the weight.  It is better to be in control of your weight than to give in and feel that you will always be overweight no matter how hard you try.
